Students Win a Chance to Build Educational Websites

Over fifty students from seven countries, as well as their mentors and family, gathered in San Francisco on November 11-15 for ThinkQuest Live 2007. The function, sponsored by the Oracle Education Foundation, was a weeklong ceremony of the students' accomplishments, expertise and skill in winning the ThinkQuest International website building competition.

The youth represented the first, second, third, Global Perspectives and TRIO Special Recognition Award teams from the 2007 competition cycle. As part of their prize, the students were able to take part in a series of learning and recreational programs and be guests-of-honor at an awards dinner.

As part of the ongoing project, these students will develop educational websites from scratch, investing hours in online collaboration, research and teamwork. And at the conclusion of the competition, they will have created a valuable learning resource for their peers all over the Earth!

Educational 365 - New TV Study

From Educational 365, "Arthur" and "Barney" are fine for little children's television-watching. But not "Rugrats" and certainly not "Power Rangers," states a new study of early television-watching and possible problems.

For each hour per day that kids under three watched violent kid-oriented entertainment their risk doubled for attention problems 5 years later, the study found. Even nonviolent children's shows like "Rugrats" and "The Flintstones" still showed substantial risk for attention problems.

According to the study, educational shows, including "Arthur," "Barney" and "Sesame Street" had no association with future attention problems.
